Discover Live Steam Story

In preparation for the ILS 50th annual meet the club has started on a project to rebuild our 3/4" high line.   Rick Tracy, Mark Spiner, Tom Chmura, Joe Chmura, and the Wednesday crew have been working hard to build new supports and concrete pads that will allow the new high-line to "float" so that it can be more easily adjusted and leveled than the old track.   Despite being the gauge that started the ILS,  the 3/4 inch has experienced a decrease in use.   With this renovation we hope to see an increased use of our high-line which is gauged for 3/4 and G.

As the tracks remain covered with snow many are already hard at work preparing for the 50th meet.
We have added the RSVP forms bellow to help prepare for your visit to the ILS and to help us prepare for your visit.

The Illinois Live Steamers crew at the 2016 All American Train Show had a great time meeting with fellow model railroaders and discussing the advantages of live steam.   Those who stopped by got an opportunity to see an equipment demonstration and watch a few videos of the ILS in action.  This years display at the show featured an air brake and turnout demonstration built and presented by Carl Baskin along with equipment displays by Bill Halupka, Benton Bullwinkel, Bob Keding, and Jim Kubitz.   Also a big thanks to Leo Richard and George Pieper who helped work the booth and all the folks who dropped by to say hello.

Big thanks to Chuck Butterfield for building a new and improved Bathe Oil building for the 2016 season.   Many of the old buildings are in need of repair and thanks to Chuck for answering the call and creating a structure that will be enjoyed for years to come.
